Osflo is composted poultry litter — nutrient and organic matter, returned to New Zealand soil. It works on any pasture system: conventional, mixed, or fully organic. What changes from farm to farm isn’t the product. It’s the rate, the timing, and which paddocks get it. No two farms are the same, so neither are our plans.
That’s soil-first farming: the pasture is the outcome, the soil is the asset. Osflo is Fertmark registered, so the nitrogen, phosphate, potassium and sulphur you’re paying for is the same as you’d get from a conventional blend. The difference is what else comes with it.
The same nutrients, released differently — and organic matter on top
The nitrogen in Osflo is tied up in the organic matter, so it’s slower acting. With Osflo, you’ll see a strong initial pasture response, followed by a more gradual release of nitrogen from the organic matter. this gives you the early growth yield you want, with a longer, more sustained supply of nitrogen becoming available to the pasture over time.
The potassium works in a similar way. Rather than being fully water soluble, it is held within the organic matter, helping reduce the risk of leaching and keeping potassium available to the pasture for longer.
Then there’s the organic matter itself, which no synthetic fertiliser delivers. It feeds soil microbiological life, and that biology is what builds soil structure. Better structure means better drainage through a wet winter, better moisture retention through a dry summer, and a paddock that stands up to compaction. To put the same nutrient on conventionally you’d spread about 340 kg/ha of super, potash and urea. The 2 tonnes of Osflo’s BioGro Certified fertiliser does that job and leaves the soil in better shape for next season.
